so, it's friday. the week has finally come to a close. i went down to skrappy's tonight to check out Alicia's brother's band, Audius. it was an interesting show. i mean, in they were better than i expected and a lot of fun to watch. her brother is a really good drummer. but at the same time, even disregarding the band's "tough guy" lead singer, there were some really disconcerting things going on. very early in the evening, a whole tribe of teeny bopper-esque gals show up with "Audius" tattooed across their arms and chests. now, i try to be really respectful and understandsing of all different people, but i admit, i have a bias against air head girls..especially when they all group together and flaunt their stupidity. before the show, they sort of hung around in a pod together, giggling whenever a band member went by. occasionally, you would hear a piercing shriek as one of them ran to greet another groupie friend. that was interesting. during the actual set, however, they got really bold and proceeded to hop up and down (in complete disregard for the actual beat) in front of the stage, screaming like n'sync fans. in addition to the groupies, there was a group of trendy "scene kids" there who were only present to make a scene and laugh at the band. now i have seen some pretty bad bands play, but at the same time, i think that standing around to mock a band you know you are going to hate is ridiculous. no one was asking for their approval. and no matter what, the band should get some respect for putting themselves up there like that. it takes a lot of courage to perform. and yet, these kids took it upon themselves to play the supieriors and act as if they alone were fans of "good music". it also struck me, as they were all strutting around, that they were also carbon copies of eachother. the same clothes, the same hair, everything. it was all about trends. so once again, i was dissapointed with the attitudes of the so-called "scene kids", and asked myself why it really is that I go to these shows. or why anyone else goes for that matter. for the music, or for the trends? good question.....
So I was watching VH1 tonight (not a great choice, but it beats out the evil MTV any day) and the show "The List" came on. Now there is not a whole lot to the show, and I probably would have just kept on channel surfing, if it had not been for the category of tonight show. The topic was: Best band or artist of the 90s. strangely enough, and I do give the people on this show some credit for these two additions, both the Dave Matthews Band and Radiohead were on this list. Now these two artists are very close to my music-loving heart, and I even though I knew it all in vain, I was really hoping to see them make it onto the top three list at the end of the show. As expected, niether band made it onto the list, but what really shocked me was what they got beat out by. The top three artists of the 90's, according to VH1 viewers are as follows: 1. Dr. Dre 2. Nirvana 3. Pearl Jam I am not going to begin to debate the musical achievements of Nirvana, or anything else like that, b...
