ahh yes. thanksgiving. that holiday we all forget that is smashed somewhere in between the riotous halloween and christmas propaganda. it has something to do with pilgrims, autumn, and food, right? I think that thanksgiving is entirely underrated. I mean, when it comes down to it, the actual meaning of the whole holiday is often overshadowed by football, discount shopping sprees at the mall, and turkey. And, as halmark as tghis sounds, I think people should take a breath to be thankful on this day. I mean, it is the only day a year we have set aside to be grateful, we should utilize it. Now, I am not completely innocent of forgetting the whole "meaning" of Thanksgiving. I can appreciate how hard it is to stop, look around you, and just appreciate life. It all moves so fast. And maybe you don't particularly like the way life is going at the moment. But all in all, there is a lot to be grateful for. Your family, perhaps, or your lack of one, depending on who you are related...

so tonight is the night. the first of my three drama performances. it's a pretty exciting ( and frightening ) prospect. for one thing, our rehersals have been ridiculously unproductive and hardly helpful. there have been problems with everything from getting props and organizing ticket sales to publicity and lighting. but the biggest problem has been the overall apathy of all of the actors. people were neglecting their scripts, not learning lines or blocking, and that was the part that was really discouraging. i mean, we all auditioned for this, and we are supposed to set a standard-a higher caliber, you know? and yes, i do admit that the play isn't the most engaging and interesting piece that we could do, but it is still worth doing well. no matter what..."the show will go on"...so we might as well do the best we can. but anyways, enough with that. our dress rehersals have been looking up, and i am actually very optimistic about tonight's performance. everything ...

i called my papa today. i was sort of a wash of emotions afterwards. i mean, on one hand, i was really glad to talk to him, and i know he appreciated the call. he gets pretty lonely, and i get so caught up in my own life that i forget the small pleasures he takes out of talking to family. i know that he appreciates it when he gets to talk to any one of us, since it is so rare that he has a chance to see loved ones personally. however, on the other hand, i always feel a bit guilty after our calls, because i realize how many things there are that i could do for him, even if it's just a simple call once a week, that i neglect to do. and that's just selfish of me. so i plan to change that.

It seems that winter, or at least it's somewhat lesser desert counterpart, has hit our fine city. I kind of enjoy the cooler weather when I wake up in the morning, wrapped up in the warmth of comforters and fuzzy blankets. However, after that initial bliss, I could do without the numb face and wind. (The sad thing is that the "cold weather I describe is, in all actuality, only about 50-60 degrees at the lowest. As some of my better traveled friends tell me-this is not even remotely cold...) Anyways, aside from some of the weather changes, life has maintained a fairly even keel the last few weeks. (It's amazing how much you learn about your life when people ask you if anything new is happening. When, 9 times out of 10, the answer is something along the lines of "Oh, you know...the usual...", you know life has hit a rut. But hey, that's not always bad. Life is better lived at a relaxed and easy pace, than so crazy that you can't enjoy any of it-and I know t...

it's been awhile since I posted last. I have two excuses for that...one being that it's been hard to get the Blogger site to upload on my computer for some reason. The other is really no excuse...I just keep forgetting. But on to the more interesting aspects of life. I just picked up an ALOHA cd. ($6 used, not bad) Self described as " a band that brings avant-garde in step with meaningful songwriting", ALOHA is far from being just another carbon copy. This cd, ("That's Your Fire") is full of bass, guitar, soft piano, fluid jazz runs, and lots of bells...And I have to admit that the xylophone-type sounds take some getting used to. But all in all, it's a pretty unique addition. And, in my humble opinion, they use it to their advantage. Every track is an exercise in sound, rythym, and speed, giving the album just enough diversity to be interesting, with out leaving the listener lost in the dust of some "post-rock" disaster. So, if you have th...
