ahh yes. thanksgiving. that holiday we all forget that is smashed somewhere in between the riotous halloween and christmas propaganda. it has something to do with pilgrims, autumn, and food, right? I think that thanksgiving is entirely underrated. I mean, when it comes down to it, the actual meaning of the whole holiday is often overshadowed by football, discount shopping sprees at the mall, and turkey. And, as halmark as tghis sounds, I think people should take a breath to be thankful on this day. I mean, it is the only day a year we have set aside to be grateful, we should utilize it.
Now, I am not completely innocent of forgetting the whole "meaning" of Thanksgiving. I can appreciate how hard it is to stop, look around you, and just appreciate life. It all moves so fast. And maybe you don't particularly like the way life is going at the moment. But all in all, there is a lot to be grateful for. Your family, perhaps, or your lack of one, depending on who you are related to, your friends, your home, your job...your dog. Anything. I personally, am thankful for the fact that live in circumstances that are plentiful enough for me to grow jaded. I mean, if every day the life that i am blessed with, in all it's sufficiency and even excess, just seems routine, well then that is proof enough for me that my real worries in this life are at a low, and i am well taken care of. I am blessed. and the fact that that is normal, and that i have the oppertunity to take these things for granted on a daily basis is no small indication of this.
so whatever ( or whoever) you are thankful for, make sure you don't take it for granted. take time on this day, or any other day for that matter, to just stop and look at life with a fresh perspective and new eyes. you might see things that you don't like, but chances are, there will be something there that you never really took notice of, something that you wouldn' be the same without, and that thankfulness will be honestly merited.
